Minnesota isn't out of money
Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 2:40PM The govetnment simply hasn't thought to look for government money on their state unclaimed property site. Unfortunately, as part of the government shutdown, that site is also shut down.
But I know a way around it!
Go to www.missingmoney.com. Under "Last Name" enter:
MN
Minn
Minnesota
State of
Dept of
Department of
Board of
Bureau of
Of course for "Your Resident State" enter MN to bring up the listings for this state.
Not everything that comes up will be for the state government. But nearly every listing is for more than $100. That could be $100.01, $1,000, $10,000 or more. There's no way to know how much is there because no one is at work at the unclaimed property office.
Keep in mind, there are always more listings on the state unclaimed property site than on missingmoney.com because the very new and the very old listings aren't on the national site.
Here's the kicker ... there are listings for the state unclaimed property site on the state unclaimed property site!
Don't think Minnesota is alone on this. (They're just the only state with government workers not drawing a paycheck.) Try entering your state info the way I outlined it for the land of 10,000 lakes.
